I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago, and relocated to New York in 1999, to pursue a career as a recording artist. I did theater in college here, but focused primarily on musical theater as I saw that as a way to the Broadway aspect of performing, and along the way discovered jazz. I do have a day job, to pay the bills, but I am known as a jazz fusion vocalist, a mix of Michael Buble, Maxwell and David Rudder (my caribbean icon). I had given up on on music and performing out of frustration, between 2004 and 2008, but in '08 through a conversation with my mother who I hadnt seen for about four years until then, and a couple of new opportunities, I started back working on honing a performance career, juggling it with a day job.
Ive done weddings, restaurants, a lot of private gigs., but the past year or so Ive been focusing on the production aspect, very often producing then performing in my own projects, last one being a Nina Simone tribute featuring indie artists living in NY.
Ive sort of given up on the stardom, and even just to be able to live by music and performing seems so out of reach, I try to perform at jazz events in my home land of Trinidad a lot, and wish I was in a position to help the jazz fraternity there, it is not given much respect or support…Ive been on indie labels, tried out for the Voice earlier this year…got to LA, didnt have much of a sob story though.
My Mum is not in the best of health, and I would love an opportunity to shine on stage, and dedicate a performance to her, I write original music as well. Years ago, actually back in 1991, I had a hip hop type, dance group called Zero Defect, and we opened for Queen Latifah in Trinidad, when she shared the billing with Crystal Waters…. I met her back stage briefly and we spoke, a wide eyed young man who just wanted to know what it was like to be a start in 'America'. She shared wih me, how to stop thinking in a box, and reach for anything I wanted to be, especailly a singer. She said she was a singer too, and I said …you're a rapper? She said to me…hey…Im a PERFORMER. Stop thinking in a box! She hugged me and said that she will see me on stage one day. Five minutes of inspiration. Ive watched Latifah become an actress, a singer, a Covergirl, an icon and I am so, so proud of her, and to have met her once. She has, and continues to be, one of my sources of inspiration to still try.

My nme is Jessica Fisher and I live in NC. I am 25 years old and the mother of 2. I am a phlebotomist (draw blood) and enjoy my job, but I feel like its not what im ment to do. My true passion is singing. I have grown up my whole life around good southern country muic and gospel music, and really started to become interested the older I got. I started singing in church and then started singing any where I could. School, work, and of course local karaoke places. I love to sing and it really helps to soothe my soul. I grew up in a home with my mom and dad untill my dad was sent to Iraq my Junior year of High school, and shortly afer his return my family fell apart. My dad had sever PTSD and went off the deep end. He and my mom started going throught the divorce process and I felt like my whole life was slowly falling appart. Soon after in May 2004 I found out I was pregnant at the age of 17. My boyfriend and i were so excited. That was until in Oct. we found out the baby (little girl) had died in utero. I felt like everything was crashing down around me and I couldnt keep going. This was the point in my life when I turned to God and music to help me get though. Nothing made me feel better than getting in the car and driving around belting out my favorite songs. I am now happily married to the love of my life with 2 healthy children and a wonderful job and family. I LOVE music, it is my passion!!! I have a very high Mariah Carey like range and I love all those high notes. I can sing almost any genre of music and singing is my passion. I always have to travel to these auditions ,because our town is so small none of the auditions are ever close.
